A Place for Healing. A Path to Recovery.
For over four decades, Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services (AARS) has been dedicated to helping adults in overcoming substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health conditions through compassionate and evidence-based care.
Founded in 1982, AARS is among the most long-standing treatment providers in Alaska. Located in Point Mackenzie, Alaska, our campus provides a safe and supportive environment where individuals can heal, grow, and build a strong foundation for enduring recovery.
Regardless of whether an individual is starting treatment or continuing in their recovery journey, AARS offers a comprehensive continuum of care designed specifically to meet each person’s distinct needs in their recovery process.
All PM recovery meetings held at AARS that are open to the community will be moved from 8-9 to 7-8. This will start the week of 7/19/2026.
About Us
Leonard and Henrietta Nugen founded Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc. (AARS) in 1982, making it one of Alaska’s oldest adult residential substance abuse treatment programs. AARS has been serving adults with substance use disorder (SUD) and co-occurring disorders for over 40 years.
Our treatment program combines twelve-step recovery, group and individual counseling, life skills training, and work therapy in a supportive environment. During their recovery at AARS, clients learn about farming and gain a sense of self-worth through work therapy and life skills training. Clients also learn occupational skills through AARS’ vocational education program. Before 2012, AARS was located on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway in Wasilla. AARS relocated its treatment program to Point Mackenzie in Wasilla, Alaska.
Our residential treatment facility and outpatient transitional housing are located on 116 acres of farmland. The property, home to AARS, is known as Nugen’s Ranch. For additional information, please click here.
