Intake Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the close supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the Intake Coordinator will:

  • Learn fundamentals of substance abuse counseling, documentation and filing of client records.
  • Learn to do assessments, intakes, and referrals.
  • Participate in educational and process groups.
  • Assist residential clients with program work, learn group and individual counseling techniques.
  • Practice effective communication skills.
  • Learn the dynamics of addiction.
  • Provide staff coverage during assigned work hours.
  • Monitor facility security.
  • Supervise client activity groups and assist with recreational activities of clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the close supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, will learn proper documentation, record keeping, (referrals, assessments, intakes) and filing.
  • Under close supervision of the Clinical Supervisor completes all consent and intake forms for all clients upon admittance to AARS.
  • Under the close supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, perform professional activities related to client treatment (Depends on activity).
  • Under the close supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, responsible for client treatment for assigned clients.
  • Participate in case conference, client evaluations and client discharge planning as indicated.
  • Cooperate with staff in continuing care planning and with follow-up.
  • Assist in front desk duties, transportation of clients, work, and recreation group leadership, etc., as assigned.
  • Assist non-readers and non-writers in understanding all written materials and in providing required responses.
  • Responsible for keeping client file room up to date, in correct number order and destroying client files that are over seven years old.
  • Report all file numbers destroyed to the Executive Director.
  • Actively participate in training programs (seminars, workshops, etc. at the request of the Clinical Supervisor) leading toward certification.
  • Learn and maintain client confidentiality within federal and state guidelines.Review AARS Operations Manual.
  • Compile data for reports and various other regulatory and accrediting agencies as directed.
  • Complete and submit AKAMS forms daily.
  • Maintain contact by phone and / or e-mail with recovering person after they leave AARS to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed.
  • Provide long-term engagement, support, and encouragement.
  • Provide patients an example of what they can strive for in their recovery.
  • Provide direct peer counseling based on your own lived experiences.
  • Help participants understand and employ recovery strategies.
  • Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
  • Participate in staff training and conduct training sessions as requested.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports and records to Executive Director.
  • Prepare and submit incidents reports as needed both positive and negative to Executive Director and other staff.
  • Required to read all policies and procedures manuals of AARS; able to pass exam manuals.
  • Maintain Client Confidentiality according to Federal and State guidelines.
  • Participate in staff meetings or review minutes within 48 hours of missed meeting.
  • Participate in staff training and provided leadership for training as requested.
  • Participate in probationary and annual staff evaluations.
  • Review and become familiar with the Personnel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Have knowledge and understanding of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
  • Knowledge of client record keeping.
  • Minimum of one year experience in alcoholism and drug abuse program. (Paid or unpaid volunteer time will suffice, preferably with public inebriates).
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate or higher education.
  • Willing to participate in training which may lead to Counselor I certification.
  • Ability to follow instructions, legible handwriting / printing, and computer literate.
  • Enjoys working with forms, compiling data and handling filing system.
  • Flexible, organized, and willing to assist in other program areas when needed.
  • If a recovering individual is chemically free for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Must have: Appropriate computer skills; Current TB test (obtainable within the first 30 days of employment); Current First Aid / CPR Cards (obtainable within the first 90 days of employment); Initial COVID vaccinations, provide vaccination card as proof; and a valid Alaska Driver’s License, with a good driving record and insurable.
  • Must be able to pass the mandated criminal background check with an allowance for a variance.
  • Is a positive role model.
  • Has the ability to enforce client rules.
  • Preferred: Familiar with Alaska Native culture; resident of Mat-Su Valley; experience working with handicapped; some experience with social service agencies; good team worker who can relate well with fellow workers; able to relate to alcoholics, drug abusers, and public inebriates, and familiar with AA / NA treatment philosophies.
  • Must be a person who is free from allergies, which would interfere with daily AARS life.
  • May be a resident of the Mat-Su Borough and a person with knowledge of Alaska Native Cultures, both of which are preferred.

Employment Status: Full-Time
Starting Pay: $30 per hour (position also includes a monthly gas allowance, health insurance reimbursement, and COVID vaccination bonus)
