EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time CLASSIFICATION: Salary

LOCATION: Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc. (AARS), 26731 W. Point MacKenzie Road, Wasilla, Alaska 99623

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

DEFINITION:

Will be responsible for complete maintenance of fields, ranch vehicles (tractor), stock, and greenhouses. Will oversee the production of vegetables, flowers, and hay. Will oversee the raising, care, and processing of pigs, cattle, and other livestock. Will function as repair person of ranch equipment, work counselor, group leader, trainer. Will oversee client’s assigned ranch jobs / chores in progress. Will assist in the transportation of clients, and donation runs/pick-ups using AARS vehicles. Will provide supervision for drivers and AARS ranch hands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide general maintenance of ranch vehicles and implements (tractors, etc.) and keep in proper running order.

2. Oversee the maintenance and operation of the AARS Greenhouse and animal care which includes breeding records, pen maintenance, feeding, butchering inventory, and arranging for animal transportation to slaughterhouse, etc.

3. Oversee the planting, upkeep, harvesting and storage of all crops grown.

4. Assist in shopping for facility, including ordering of meats, supplies, and other material needed.

5. Deal with other agencies such as produce wholesales, surplus property, building supply companies, etc.

6. Be responsible for overall upkeep of AARS fields.

7. Conduct inventories of Ranch equipment and supplies under his/her supervision/oversee the tool room.

8. Supervise/oversee work assignments of drivers, and ranch hands.

9. Conduct performance evaluations on all supervised employees.

10. Submit a fortnightly written report of the AARS ranch operation to the Director of Operations.

11. Initiate Purchase Orders for farm equipment, ranch, and fields.

12. Oversee work assignments of clients and cooperate with the Director of Clinical Operation, Clinical Manager, and / or Clinical Supervisor in providing therapeutic experiences for clients.

13. Complete documentation on the client’s progress and submits it to the client’s counselor weekly.

14. Assist in transportation duties and donation runs.

15. Learn and maintain client confidentiality within federal and state laws.

16. Help participants understand and employ recovery strategies.

17. Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).

18. Prepare and submit timely reports and records to Executive Director.

19. Prepare and submit incidents reports as needed both positive and negative to Executive Director and other staff.

20. Read all policies and procedures manuals of AARS; able to pass exam manuals.

21. Participate in staff meetings or review minutes within 72 hours of missed meeting.

22. Conduct staff training on topics related to the operation of the ranch, farm animals, greenhouse, etc.

23. Prepare and submit incidents reports as needed both positive and negative to Director of Operations and other staff.

24. Participate in staff training and provided leadership for training as requested.

25. Participate in probationary and annual staff evaluations.

26. Review and become familiar with the Personnel Manual for AARS.

27. Conduct staff training on topics related to operation of the farm and maintenance of the AARS physical environment.

28. Participate in probationary and annual evaluation meetings and will assist in the annual review of the AARS Operations Manual.

29. Be responsible to be on-call for all emergencies that arise at AARS, which may include but not be limited to:

a. Power outages,

b. Earthquakes, and

c. Water and sewage issues.

30. Assume other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Knowledge of general maintenance in order to know when to call for expert help.

2. Knowledge of farming (farm equipment) and animal care (husbandry).

3. Knowledge of substance use disorder as a disease. If a recovered SUD person, must be in remission for at least TWO (2) years.

4. Knowledge of vehicles repair and maintenance.

5. Ability to work without close supervision and to supervise others as needed.

6. Ability to communicate with clients verbally and non-verbally.

7. Ability to write legibly.

8. Demonstrate the ability to respond to crises situations and emergencies with good judgment.

9. Must be in good physical condition in order to carry and lift heavy objects (at least 50 lbs.) and to do a variety of maintenance chores.

10. Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate or higher education.

11. If a recovering individual is chemically free for a minimum of 2 years.

12. Must have:

a. Appropriate computer skills,

b. Current TB test (obtainable within the first 30 days of employment);

c. Current First Aid / CPR Cards (obtainable within the first 90 days of employment);

d. Initial COVID vaccinations, provide vaccination card as proof; and

e. A valid Alaska Driver’s License, with a good driving record and insurable.

13. Must be able to pass the mandated criminal background check with an allowance for a variance.

14. Is a positive role model.

15. Has the ability to enforce client rules.

16. Preferred: Familiar with Alaska Native culture; resident of Mat-Su Valley; experience working with handicapped; some experience with social service agencies; good team worker who can relate well with fellow workers; able to relate to alcoholics, drug abusers, and public inebriates, and familiar with AA / NA treatment philosophies.

17. Must be a person who is free from allergies, which would interfere with daily AARS life.

18. May be a resident of the Mat-Su Borough and a person with knowledge of Alaska Native Cultures, both of which are preferred.
