Registered Nurse
Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc.’s (AARS) Registered Nurse will provide direct and/or indirect on-site nursing care to residential clients under the direction of consulting physicians. The Registered Nurse will also maintain client medical records and medicinal supplies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry on regular and consistent health care program with clients and determine when referral to consulting physician is appropriate.
- Plan, implement, evaluate, record, and report all medical care according to physician’s guidelines on individualized treatment plan.
- Maintain and properly use equipment required for client care.
- Use procedures and treatment practices in keeping with professional standards.
- Document in files all medication: type, amount, dosage, and date and time dispensed.
- Arrange and provide training; personal hygiene and first aid.
- Provide for all health-related matters for intake, initial health screening, referrals to local practitioners, and other ancillary medical services as needed.
- Develop related plans for discharge and after care planning.
- Assist administrative and treatment staff in incorporation of handicapped into program.
- Learn and maintain client confidentiality: federal / state guideline/laws.
- Participate in all staff meetings or review minutes of same within 48 hours of meeting missed.
- Participate in and when appropriate leads staff training program.
- Participate in staff evaluations.
- Coordinate with Cook on special diets / menus as needed.
- Required to read all policies and procedure manuals of AARS and pass exam on manuals.
- Complete all forms in timely manner.
- Maintain current with the field and related regulations.
- Maintain inventories of medical supplies, orders as needed, destroys medicines when required, and returns medications to clients when leaving.
- Review AARS Operations Manual.
- Compile data for reports and various other regulatory and accrediting agencies as directed.
- Maintain project logs, reports, and records in appropriate files and database(s).
- Participate in staff training and conduct training sessions as requested.
- Participate in probationary and annual evaluation.
- Prepare and submit timely reports and records to Executive Director.
- Prepare and submit incidents reports as needed both positive and negative to Executive Director and other staff.
- Required to read all policies and procedures manuals of AARS; able to pass exam manuals.
- Maintain Client Confidentiality according to Federal and State guidelines.
- Review and become familiar with the Personnel Manual for AARS.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Required Skills and Abilities:
- A graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice by the State of Alaska as an RN or LPN.
- A minimum of one year of clinical experience after Licensure or nursing school clinical experience in a state approved nursing school.
- Has successfully completed course in Pharmacology either in school or in an approved continuing education program.
- Able to work well under supervision but also be able to work independently and respond well in emergencies.
- Knowledgeable of local hospitals, clinics, and doctors.
- Able to teach personal hygiene concepts and practices to clients.
- Have knowledge and understanding of substance use disorder.
- Knowledge of client record keeping.
- Minimum of one year experience in substance use disorder program. (Paid or unpaid volunteer time will suffice, preferably with public inebriates).
- Ability to follow instructions, legible handwriting/printing, and computer literate.
- Enjoys working with forms, compiling data and handling filing system.
- Flexible, organized, and willing to assist in other program areas when needed.
- If a recovering individual is chemically free for a minimum of 5 years.
- Must have: Appropriate computer skills; Current TB test (obtainable within the first 30 days of employment); Current First Aid / CPR Cards (obtainable within the first 90 days of employment); Initial COVID vaccinations, provide vaccination card as proof; and a valid Alaska Driver’s License, with a good driving record and insurable.
- Must be able to pass the mandated criminal background check with an allowance for a variance.

- Has the ability to enforce client rules.
- Preferred: Familiar with Alaska Native culture; resident of Mat-Su Valley; experience working with handicapped; some experience with social service agencies; good team worker who can relate well with fellow workers; able to relate to alcoholics, drug abusers, and public inebriates, and familiar with AA / NA treatment philosophies.
- Must be a person who is free from allergies, which would interfere with daily AARS life.
- May be a resident of the Mat-Su Borough.

Location: AARS, Pt. MacKenzie Road ***PLEASE NOTE*** AARS is 28 miles from downtown Wasilla.
Employment Status: Full-Time
Starting Pay: $45.00 to $52.00 per hour DOE (position also includes dental/life insurance, monthly gas stipend, 401K option, and health insurance reimbursement)
